Cambria Veterans Memorial Hall Opens as Evacuation Shelter for Plaskett Fire

Dear Cambrians,

As the Plaskett Fire continues to affect the Big Sur area, the Cambria Community Services District (CCSD) is making the Cambria Veterans Memorial Hall, located at 1000 Main Street in Cambria, available as an evacuation shelter for individuals and families displaced by the fire.

CCSD staff is coordinating with the American Red Cross to support shelter operations and prepare the facility to accommodate evacuees as needed. The Veterans Memorial Hall will provide a safe location for individuals who have been directed to evacuate or otherwise displaced by the fire.

Although the Plaskett Fire is currently located north of Cambria, wildfire conditions can change rapidly. Residents may notice increased activity at the Veterans Memorial Hall, including evacuees, shelter personnel, and emergency response resources. The CCSD asks residents to allow evacuees, emergency personnel, and shelter staff the space necessary to safely conduct shelter and emergency operations.

The CCSD extends its support to the residents and communities affected by the Plaskett Fire and recognizes the efforts of the firefighters, emergency personnel, and other responders working on the incident.

Sincerely,

Matthew McElhenie
General Manager
