Plaskett Fire Update – August 30, 2026 | 3:50 PM

The Plaskett Fire is located in the Big Sur/Plaskett area to the north of Cambria, in southern Monterey County and extending toward northern San Luis Obispo County. Evacuation warnings have been issued in northern San Luis Obispo County, south of the Monterey County line, as the Plaskett Fire continues to affect the Big Sur area. While these are currently evacuation warnings, there is no immediate threat to Cambria at this time. However, fire conditions can change rapidly, and residents are encouraged to remain highly vigilant and prepared to act if conditions change.

The Cambria Community Services District and Cambria Fire Department will continue to monitor conditions and keep the community informed as information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to download the Watch Duty application to receive updates on changing fire conditions and evacuation information.

The Cambria Veterans Memorial Hall is also available as an evacuation shelter for individuals and families displaced by the fire. More information is available here.

The map below shows the location of the Plaskett Fire in relation to Cambria. The map is provided to show the approximate geographic distance and location of the fire in relation to Cambria and is intended for reference only. The house icon on the map identifies the Cambria Veterans’ Memorial Hall, located at 1000 Main Street in Cambria, which is being used as an evacuation shelter. Zones SLC-001 and SLC-003 in San Luis Obispo County are currently under an Evacuation Warning.

1. Use the map here to find your zone, and type your address in the upper left hand side of the map.  Click Enter.  
2. The first result will show your Protective Action Zone (PAZ) if you live in the Diablo Cayon Emergency Planning Zone (this will be a PAZ 1 - 12). These are only used for emergencies at Diablo Canyon.  Only those who live in the Emergency Planning Zone will have a PAZ.  
3. The second result will also show your Evacuation Zone for all other emergencies. This is a 6 digit number: For example SLC-001.  Every address in San Luis Obispo County will have an Evacuation Zone. 
4. The  map will also show your zones. To zoom in, use the +/- sign on the top right.

6. If an Evacuation Order or Warning is ordered, emergency officials will utilize alert and notification methods such as Wireless Emergency Alerts and Reverse 911 to notify residents which zones are affected. Knowing your evacuation zone will allow you to respond more quickly.
