In consideration of Cambria's scarce water supplies and recurring drought conditions, a Board-approved Water Use Efficiency Plan was developed through the services of Maddaus Water Management in 2013.

An additional letter report was provided by Maddaus Water Management to CCSD staff to support updates to the CCSD retrofit program.

Under CCSD Municipal Code, the following water conservation rules apply to all residents and businesses at all times:

• Watering is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
• Watering to an extent that allows runoff from the property is prohibited.
• Washing vehicles, boats, and trailers with potable water is prohibited, except with the use of a hose fitted with a shut-off nozzle or device attached to it that causes it to cease dispensing water immediately when not in use.
• Washing down sidewalks, driveways, streets, walkways, parking lots, windows, buildings, porches, or patios and all other hard-surfaced areas by direct hosing with potable water is prohibited.
• The serving of drinking water other than upon request in eating or drinking establishments, including but not limited to restaurants, hotels, cafes, cafeterias, bars or other pubic places where food or drink are served and/or purchased is prohibited.

Make Water Use Efficiency a California Way of Life

California recently passed two new laws that require water providers, including the CCSD, to set new, permanent water use targets by the year 2022. It is important to note:

• There are no immediate impacts on customers.
• Many details for implementing the new laws will be worked out over the next several years.

The laws provide a framework for setting targets that include standards for the amount of water used indoors, the amount of water used outside (based on our local climate) and for water lost to leaks in our system. These standards will be rolled into one overall target for our service area. Individual households and businesses will not be required to individually meet any standards.

Once targets are set, we will decide how to best achieve the new targets as a service area. In the meantime, we are continuing to offer rebates and programs to help our customers use water wisely.
